A Weighted Blanket
I've been debating on getting one of these for William to help him sleep. He has been piling all the pillows in the bed on himself and then falling peacefully to sleep. I've read a couple of blogs were parents have gotten these for there kids and now I'm wondering if I should try one out myself. The only thing is.. Where the heck do you get one. I'm sure if I got one on line shipping and handling would be doubled because its a Weighted blanket " Humm.. Comment me and let me know what you all think. ~Amanda

hey yall! in response to your weighted blanket question -im always skeptical of gimmicks though this is a little different- cassie sleeps under a sleeping bag with a pillow over her head- i would suggest going to good ole wally world and looking at an adult sized heavy weight camping style sleeping bag, cassie had one she wore out- actually she took matts- now she just has a regular weight sleeping bag but she still covers all the way up, head too, with that and a pillow on top-lemme know what ya think- love ya!
I ordered a weighted blanket on-line via Dream Catcher Weighted Blankets and have been very happy with the results. The woman who makes it was referred to me by Sayer's OT, because she gave her a sample blanket to use.
The owner, Eileen, even called me when the pattern and solid color I had chosen would clash, so I could switch to a better combo. Sayer does use it, not to sleep but to calm down. Here is the site: http://www.weightedblanket.net/index.htm.
BTW - I found your blog via China at Brilliant Spectrum Child. I've been doing the "autism thing" for several years but you might find my blog interesting. Take care.

Orangeboy also covers himself all the way up over his head. Sometimes putting a pillow on top also. I'm slightly afraid of him suffocating, but what can I do? He has a heavy king sized spread over his full-sized bed. He really likes it. I'm with auntangie - improvise! The specialty stuff is too expensive.

I have an old, wool-filled quilt/comforter that works well -- it is very heavy but perhaps too warm for your part of the world!
One of the schools here has posted instructions on making your own blanket:
